EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
Music for Young People
The Garden State Philharmonic’s Music for Young People program shares the power of music with over 3,500 public and private school students through hands-on classroom demonstrations led by Maestro Anthony LaGruth, live chamber ensemble assemblies, participation in the GSPYO, and the free annual Young People's Concert.
Through these classroom visits and musical assemblies, young people learn about orchestral music, instruments, the science of sound, musical excerpts from the concert, concert behavior, and how to get involved in music.
Pre-concert activities include an Instrument Petting Zoo led by veteran GSPYO members and a Student Artwork Gallery compiled by art teachers. During the concert, members of the GSPYO and participating schools perform side-by-side with the Philharmonic.
Based in the Toms River Regional Schools, the supplemental in-school program and the Young People’s Concert receive generous fiscal and volunteer support from Toms River Regional Schools, New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Target Corporation, Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and the local community.
